Before being called to the Bar in 2021, Stephen had practised law as a solicitor in NSW and the ACT for over ten years. Stephen focusses on criminal proceedings in both the ACT and NSW having been a prosecutor for the NSW ODPP in Sydney and a defence solicitor for the Aboriginal Legal Service at Redfern. While in NSW, Stephen appeared regularly in the Local, District, and Supreme Courts in a diverse range of serious matters. 

Upon moving to the ACT in 2016, Stephen became the head of practice for the ACT Legal Aid’s Domestic Violence Unit, regularly appearing for both applicants and respondents in the ACT Magistrate’s Court.

More recently, Stephen worked as an in-house lawyer in the Australian Public Service providing advice in the fields of regulatory and administrative law, developing a particular interest in the exercise of coercive powers by government, including search warrants, upon individuals and businesses.

Stephen is passionate about the law and looks forward to being able to travel to rural NSW for Court in addition to appearing in Canberra.
