With 30 years’ experience as a criminal lawyer and trial advocate, Margaret is one of the most experienced criminal and appellate barristers in the ACT.
Margaret commenced her career as a criminal lawyer at the NSW Legal Aid Commission in 1991 where she appeared in courts in Sydney in a wide range of matters including as trial counsel. She commenced working as a prosecutor at the ACT DPP in 1999, becoming the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions from 2014 where she remained until 2019 appearing as counsel in many trials and appeals. Margaret had appeared as counsel in over 60 Court of Appeal hearings in the ACT Supreme Court and as junior counsel in the High Court. While at ACT DPP she appeared in complex trials, including murder trials, fraud, and many sexual assault trials, as well as judicial review applications.
Margaret was called to the bar in October 2019 and was appointed silk (Senior Counsel) in 2021.
Margaret continues to appear regularly in the ACT Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court in sentences and trials, the Magistrates Court and Coroners Court. Margaret also appears in NSW courts.
Margaret is available to appear in the ACT and in regional NSW and Sydney in all range of criminal matters and in inquests and inquiries, and any matters where a highly experienced trial or appellate advocate is required.
